Biomedical
Network in Europe
In
1993 the BMNE was launched by the GWT (Society of Science
and Technology in Biomedicine Inc.), and since 1999 is part
of the IALS Network of Life Sciences. It was created in
cooperation with universities and R&D institutions in
order to promote and foster life sciences in Europe. BMNE
supports transnational cooperation between scientists and
users of technology in biomedical sciences and health care
delivery. See Achievements.
In
Europe BMNE works together with GBM (Corporation for Innovation
and Technology Transfer in Biomedicine Ltd.), in Bad Oeynhausen
and Castrop-Rauxel (NRW), Potsdam (Brandenburg), North Rhine-Westphalia.
BMNE also initiated a branch office in the Hannover (Germany)
region and in St. Petersburg (Russia).
THE
MAIN AREAS OF INTEREST ARE:
- International
Science and Technology Transfer
- Multi-disciplinary
scientific and educational exchange
- Molecular
epidemiology and in vitro pharmacotoxicology
- Risk
assessment and feasibility studies in the health sciences
- Medical
informatics and telecommunication
BMNE
of IALS cooperates closely with its sister organization,
BMEP (Biomedical Sciences Exchange Program Inc.) in Salsbury
Cove, Maine, USA. BMEP promotes technology transfer and
leadership in academic careers in biomedical and health
sciences between North America and Europe.
This
program was established in 1979 and has since then placed
over 1400 German and American students, post-graduates,
faculty and auxiliary professionals at universities and
scientific institutions on both sides of the ocean
