Sources of Support
It is important to note that the primary
role of the BMEP is that of a clearing house. We have been
fortunate in developing a network that allows us to propose
students for scholarship assistance and to recommend them
for placement in prestigious universities, but we ourselves
have no funds available for the financial support of students
and young scientists.
1. At present the student exchange is mainly
suported by funds from the DAAD - 'Deutscher Akademischer
Austauschdienst'- (German Academic Exchange Service). Additional
funding is partly derived from other foundations, e.g. the
'Freundesgesellschaft der Medizinischen Hochschule Hannover',
'Cusanuswerk' and 'Deutsche Studienstiftung', 'Friedrich
Ebert Stiftung' , 'Friedrich Naumann Stiftung"' and
others.
2. Postdoctoral fellowships may be, in
part, granted to members of German and U.S. academic communities
by the DAAD and the 'Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung' (A.v.H.
Foundation). The 'Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft' (German
Research Foundation) may also serve as a possible source
of support.
3. Support in health related professions
maybe obtained from the Carl Duisberg Society. The 'Foerdererkreis
der Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft also supports the 'Technology
Transfer Trainee Fellowship Program' which is sponsored
by Preussag AG, Hannover, and Boehringer-Ingelheim, Ridgefield,
Connecticut.
For European Administration financial support
has been given by the 'Ministerium fur Wirtschaft , Mittelstand
und Forschung', Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia
and the 'Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft,
Essen.
