The BMEP was established in 1979 by John Boylan, M.D.. University of Connecticut. Medical School, Farmington, and Hilmar Stolte, M.D., Medizinische Hochschule Hannover. The Academic Year Program was conceived for students of the Biomedical Sciences (Human Medicine, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, the Health Sciences, etc.). In the field of Medicine it is geared towards students in their 4th and 5th years of study. Its main aim is to further young scientists, as well as academic careers in Biomedicine and the Life Sciences.
