“To promote excellence in biomedical and health sciences”

as a student in North America participating in the
BMEP Academic Year Program.

The Academic Year Program was conceived for students of the Biomedical Sciences (Human Medicine, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, the Health Sciences, etc.). In the field of Medicine it is geared towards students in their 4th and 5th years of study. Its main aim is to further young scientists, as well as academic careers in Biomedicine and the Life Sciences.

Interested applicants will be expected to have commenced a degree dissertation or doctorate thesis which they would like to continue in a country such as the U.S. or Canada, or to wish to visit such a country in order to collate additional experience within their specialized fields. Five or six months of training will ideally be followed by a period of work experience in a hospital or other area suited to the discipline in question (Biology, Computer Science, etc.). A certificate of equivalency can be issued for students completing a clerkship.

IALS–BMEP will provide help to students applying for grants (e.g. DAAD, Studienstiftung, Friedr.-Naumann-Stiftung, Friedr.-Ebert-Stiftung, Cusanuswerk etc.).

Please note:
IALS advises you regarding tutor selection and topics of interest for research work and will discuss the projects with your chosen tutors in the USA in advance of the deadline.
